Washington slaps sanctions on Russia’s FSB service
WASHINGTON, Jun 29 (PRIME) -- The U.S. Department of State has imposed sanctions on Russia’s Federal Security Service, or FSB, due to alleged violations of the rights of Ukrainian citizens, the authority said in a statement late on Tuesday.
“The Department of State has also designated the Russian Federation’s Federal Security Service (FSB) … because the FSB is a political subdivision, agency, or instrumentality of the Government of the Russian Federation,” and since the start of Russia’s operation in Ukraine, Washington has received credible reports that indicated that the FSB has perpetrated human rights abuses against Ukrainian citizens, the statement read.
The Department of State also thinks that the FSB is involved in forcible relocation of Ukrainians and allegedly does other things against them.
The sanctions would freeze any assets of the FSB in the U.S. or controlled by the U.S. entities, as well as any entities that are 50% or more owned by the FSB directly or indirectly.
